Can I afford mediation?

Who pays for mediation?

The average cost of family mediation in the UK is £140 per person per hour.*

*according to the Family Mediation Council – January 2020

Mediate UK keep our costs fixed at £120 per person per hour throughout your whole mediation process. And remember, every pound you pay can be taken off our fixed-fee legal packages once your agreement is settled.

Government funding of up to £500 per family is now available to resolve issues relating to child arrangement matters.

Most people pay their share, but you can agree that one person will pay in full. There is more about who pays for family mediation in our blog here.

How much is mediation?

Mediation is a far more cost-effective method to resolve your dispute. A solicitor will quote upwards of £20,000 plus VAT if your case goes to court for a full financial hearing. Most solicitors charge upward of £250 plus VAT per hour.

At £120 per person per hour, our mediation is amongst the most cost-effective options available. For this you get access to our fully trained and professional family mediators, fixed-fee legal advice and services and our network of specialist companies who can help you with mortgages, financial advice, conveyancing and wills.

And don’t forget we are the best reviewed family mediation company in England & Wales.

What is included in the price of mediation?

Included in the cost of your family mediation is the time taken for the mediator to prepare for your session, write up any notes from your meetings and obtain your financial disclosures.

We do not charge extra for sending emails or letters, or for phone calls. All meetings can be held online or face to face.

Once you have reached an agreement, we can work out the most cost effective legal package for you based on the number of mediation sessions you have used.

Remember, you only pay the hourly rate for mediation until you are ready to choose a legal package that is best suited to you, on reaching your agreement.
