Consent order

Fixed Fee Consent Order Package

The Mediate UK fixed fee consent order package takes you from family mediation to a legally binding financial consent order for one fixed price. A family law solicitor drafts your consent order and files it with the court for you, so you know the likely cost from the outset and can plan around it.

Who this is for. The consent order package is only available to clients who have completed mediation with Mediate UK and have a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in place. Not there yet? Book a MIAM and Mediate UK will take you through the whole process.

Fixed price, two tiers
From£1,649plus VAT per person
£3,298 plus VAT per couple, plus the £62 HMCTS court fee, which is £31 each and paid direct to the court.

Price certainty

How does consent order pricing work?

You pay Mediate UK for your MIAM, your mediation sessions, your memorandum of understanding and your open financial statement as you go. If you then take the fixed fee consent order package, Mediate UK deducts those payments from the total package price.

The balance on each tier is what remains after those payments are taken off. It covers your consent order being drafted, filed and handled through to a legally binding outcome.

The table shows the standard deductions at online rates. Your actual balance depends on which sessions you have already paid for, and Mediate UK confirms the exact figure before you proceed.

Which tier applies

Which consent order tier applies to you?

Mediate UK has two consent order tiers, based on complexity. The tier depends on how complicated your finances are, not on how much you are dividing. If you are unsure, the Mediate UK business support team confirms your tier before any fee is agreed.

Ask us to confirm your tier

What if our agreement is particularly complex?

Some agreements fall outside the standard tiers, for example those involving more than six properties, more than four pension sharing orders, or highly specialist assets. In those cases, Mediate UK asks its solicitors to contact you directly with a personalised quote.

What about foreign property?

Mediate UK is unable to advise on the legality of reciprocal enforcement for the transfer or sale of property outside England and Wales. For the purposes of drafting your consent order, foreign property is treated the same way as property here, and it counts towards the tier calculation.

How it works

How does the consent order process work?

A Mediate UK consent order has four stages, from mediation to a sealed order. Once your memorandum of understanding is complete, the solicitor takes over and deals with the court for you.

1

Mediation and disclosure

You each attend a MIAM, then up to four hours of joint financial mediation with a Mediate UK mediator, with full financial disclosure from you both.

2

Your memorandum of understanding

Your mediator writes up a memorandum of understanding recording what you have agreed, and an open financial statement for the court.

3

The solicitor drafts the order about 4 weeks

The solicitor contacts you directly. With all the information to hand, your consent order is usually drafted within around four weeks.

4

Filed, reviewed, sealed

The solicitor files the consent order with the court for you. If the court raises a query, the solicitor responds on your behalf. Once the order is approved, a judge seals it.

When does a consent order become legally binding?

Your sealed consent order becomes legally binding once your final divorce order is granted. The divorce itself usually takes around six months from application to the conditional order, and around eight months to the final order.

Ask us directly

How much does a consent order cost with Mediate UK?

The Mediate UK fixed fee consent order package costs £1,649 plus VAT per person on Tier 1, or £1,799 plus VAT per person on Tier 2. The mediation you have already paid for is deducted, so on standard fees the balance is around £904 plus VAT per person on Tier 1. The £62 HMCTS court fee (£31 each) and ID verification at £12 plus VAT each are paid on top.

Do I need to have used Mediate UK for mediation to access this package?

Yes. The consent order package is only available to clients who have completed mediation with Mediate UK. It is designed to give you clarity on the likely cost of turning your mediated financial agreement into a legally binding consent order. There is no obligation to proceed after mediation.

How is the price calculated if I have already paid for my MIAM and sessions?

Mediation is a flexible process, so you pay for your MIAM, your sessions and your documents as you go. If you proceed with the fixed fee package, any costs already paid to Mediate UK are deducted and you pay the remaining balance. On standard fees that is £745 already paid, leaving around £904 plus VAT on Tier 1.

How long does it take to get a consent order once I have an MOU?

Once your memorandum of understanding is complete, the solicitor contacts you directly. Provided the solicitor has all the information needed, the consent order is usually drafted within around four weeks. The court’s own turnaround after filing is outside anyone’s control.

What is the difference between Tier 1 and Tier 2, and how will I know which applies?

The difference relates to the complexity of your finances, such as the number of properties or pension sharing orders. Cases involving tenanted properties are typically more complex and fall into Tier 2. Mediate UK confirms your tier before you proceed, so there is no risk of being moved up a tier after you have committed.

Do both parties pay separately, or is it one fee between us?

Fees are usually paid individually, so £1,649 plus VAT each on Tier 1, although one party can choose to cover the full cost if you both agree. This is a common thing to settle during mediation.

What happens once the consent order is filed with the court?

The court reviews it. If approved, a judge seals the consent order, which makes it legally binding once your final divorce order is granted. If the court raises any queries, the solicitor responds on your behalf.

What is the difference between a solicitor-managed and a paralegal-drafted order?

With a solicitor-managed consent order, the solicitor prepares the application, submits it to court and handles all communication. It is a regulated service, with protections through the Solicitors Regulation Authority. A paralegal can draft the document but cannot act on your behalf. You would submit the application yourself, and the service is not regulated in the same way, with no governing body overseeing complaints.

Can legal aid or the £500 voucher reduce the cost?

Legal aid can cover the mediation part of any family mediation matter if you qualify, and Mediate UK holds a Legal Aid Agency contract for family mediation. Neither legal aid nor the £500 voucher covers the solicitor drafting the order. Check your legal aid eligibility in about two minutes.

All prices are quoted per person and exclude VAT unless stated otherwise. The balance due after deductions is an estimate based on standard Mediate UK online session fees: a MIAM at £115, four one-hour joint mediation sessions at £480, a memorandum of understanding at £95 and an open financial statement at £55. Your actual balance may vary depending on which sessions you have already paid for, and Mediate UK will confirm the exact amount before you proceed.
