    About Portsmouth Family Mediation

Our Family Mediation Service in Portsmouth is based in Gatcombe House, a wonderful Grade II listed building built in 1780. The house was an Officer’s Mess, our third office which coincidentally was previously used by the army.

Membership: Family Mediation Council, College of Mediators

Background: I have a law degree from the University of Wales, Swansea and a Masters Degree in Child Law.  After completing my training contract in Cardiff, I decided to specialise in family law.  I practised as a solicitor for 8 years, representing clients in public and private law proceedings.

After a move to Surrey and a career break to have my two children, I trained as a Family Mediator with National Family Mediation.

    QU:
Why did you want to become a family mediator?
“I always liked my job as a family solicitor but when I thought about returning to work after a break, I realised that I missed my clients and helping them, not necessarily the courts and the legal system! Being a family mediator, I can use my knowledge and experience but in a completely different setting which is great.”
    QU:
What do you like most about Family mediation?
“There will always be a need for individual legal advice and representation but what I like most about Family mediation is having the opportunity to speak with both parties at the same time and see first-hand how they communicate with each other, or how they struggle to communicate. It really is a unique insight into the relationship.”
    QU:
What is the most difficult mediation situation you have dealt with?
“It’s great when a client feels comfortable talking to you. However, when you struggle to get a word in edgeways and there is a lot of slating of an ex-partner, with some very choice language, it can be quite a challenging situation. Luckily, this was an initial meeting so the ex-partner was not present. I did need a good lie down after that meeting though. Exhausting!”
    QU:
What do you enjoy most about working with Mediate UK?
“My colleagues at Mediate UK are the best (and I’m not just saying that because they might read this!). Everyone is incredibly supportive, always on hand to offer guidance and advice. We are all passionate about helping our clients and offering a great service to them.”
    QU:
Give us 5 facts about you
    1. I wanted to be a vet when I was younger but I was hopeless at science!
    2. My favourite thing to do is to meet my friends for a coffee….and a pastry.
    3. I have very bad taste in television and watch terrible reality TV. Don’t judge me.
    4. I have two beautiful daughters who keep me on my toes.
    5. I met my husband at Law School. He is a lawyer too but to this day, I don’t understand his job. At all.
