Jo Mills

Mediate UK Jo Mills Mediator

Accreditation: FMCT

Membership: Resolution

I worked within the Magistrates’ Court system for 14 years, qualifying as a Solicitor and taking on the role of Legal Advisor to the Justices in the criminal and family divisions and also dealing with emergency child protection applications.

For 8 years I worked in contentious civil litigation often using mediation to resolve disputes.

QU:
Why did you want to become a family mediator?
Having worked in the family court judiciary for many years I have seen that the Court process can be protracted, expensive and can negatively affect families emotionally and financially. Mediation is the way forward to achieving better outcomes for families and I wanted to be a part of that.
QU:
What do you like most about Family mediation?
I like working with people, seeing how they communicate (or not!), and trying to help them reach solutions tailor made to their family's individual needs. It is challenging but hugely rewarding.
QU:
What is the most difficult mediation situation you have dealt with?
If children are involved the mediation is usually more emotionally charged and trying to help parents remain child focused rather than putting their own wants and needs first can be difficult.
QU:
What do you enjoy most about working with Mediate UK?
Mediate UK provides a really supportive environment for mediators. Everyone is helpful, friendly, and genuinely want their colleagues to provide the very best service to clients.
QU:
Five facts about me:
1. I am a runner and a yogi
2. I like to drink beer from a wine glass
3. I love 1980's hip hop
4. My lockdown project was to stop dyeing my hair. I am now grey
5. I am a certified Mental Health First Aider

Tamsin Remnant

Mediate UK Tamsin Baxter Mediator

Accreditation: FMCA

Membership: College of Mediators CILEX

Background: I worked at Sainsburys, from checkouts to HR to Legal Assistant in Head Office. It made me quickly realise I wanted to work with families and not in a corporate environment.

After studying law I worked in a Child Contact Centre, which also offered mediation. I completed the NFM training course and continued my training with Mediate UK.

QU:
Why did you want to become a family mediator?
“I always wanted to be a family lawyer but the legal aid cuts that came in just after I graduated meant that I wasn’t able to find the job that I really wanted.
After discussing other options, family mediation took to my liking immediately. It is affordable and amicable for the clients and it is rewarding and fulfilling for the mediator.”
QU:
What do you like most about Family mediation?
“I like that children always come first and that clients have full control over what they do and don’t agree to.
I love seeing the relief in clients’ faces when they have reached an agreement. They often come to meetings believing that nothing will be agreed, and it will all be a waste of time – there is nothing I love more than proving people wrong!”
QU:
What is the most difficult mediation situation you have dealt with?
“When two clients had completely different ideas about how they should parent their child. The child’s needs were not put first and a lot of pressure was put on him to make decisions, which he was really too young to make.”
QU:
What do you enjoy most about working with Mediate UK?
“The team. Definitely. It is made up of brilliant characters, all with differing backgrounds and expertise. They are all more than willing to share their ideas and skills, and everyone feels safe to shout when they do not know something!
Mediate UK offers opportunities that are not available elsewhere to trainee mediators. They genuinely want you to be the best mediator you can be and do not hold back on helping you to achieve just that.”
QU:
Give us 5 facts about you
1. I love to learn.
2. I am passionate about mental health wellbeing.
3. I am obsessed with Disney and insist that everyone in my household shares my obsession.
4. My nickname is Taz – due to my temper tantrums as a toddler resembling the cartoon character Taz, The Tasmanian Devil…
5. I have two wonderful daughters, who thankfully do not resemble the Tasmanian Devil.

Read our reviews on Epsom Mediation

The service was great, I had briefly spoken to another firm who were pushy and impersonal. This company were kind patient and understanding, giving me more confidence in a tricky time.

Professional and friendly. Knowledgeable and practical. I would readily recommend this service.

Exactly what I required, very professional, felt at ease. Would not hesitate to use them again.
