Membership: Law Society

Background: I’m all about the benefits of mediation. I have a background in law and have practiced as a Solicitor, qualifying in Cardiff in 2004. I decided to specialise in Family Law and specifically Private Family Law matters.

I enjoy helping clients and particularly to assist in resolving matters swiftly and cost effectively.

Being a practicing Family Law Solicitor for over 15 years has given me a sound knowledge of the issues that arise within separation and the main focus points.

I like to set an agenda with my clients. This is so each person can explain which way they wish the mediation to progress and their areas of concern. Children and their needs are at the forefront of considerations within mediations with me.

QU:
Why did you want to become a family mediator?
I have truly seen the benefits of mediation. Everyone having the opportunity to express their view of the way forward and deciding how to resolve the matter.
To me it is the most sensible way to separate. Communication of how to, is the absolute key. Each matter is different and everyone has their own set of family values. Mediation assists everyone to explore this. Mediation is very much resolution focused.
I have been a member of Resolution for the last two years. I truly believe early resolution is essential. It’s all about how we separate politely and for the best interests for those involved. I have witnessed first-hand, how immediate, effective mediation can be at resolving difficult issues.
QU:
What do you like most about Family mediation?
There is always a need for individual legal advice and representation but what I prefer is family mediation. I like that everyone has the opportunity to resolve their own family’s separation and in an adult manner. Both parties present at the same time or even shuttled, but present at the meeting, allows for immediate discussion and results. I like assisting the communication process. Communication is key.
QU:
What is the most difficult mediation situation you have dealt with?
Sometimes clients have not been comfortable talking about their need to move forward and plan the process. I like to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to express their views. I have found structuring mediation assists with this. I am a Cardiff girl that grew up in the valleys and as such, I am used to all manner of direct communication. Some have been quite offensive and often emotions are running high, however, I have been able to assist the clients to take a pragmatic approach.
QU:
What do you enjoy most about working with Mediate UK?
Well firstly I like the name, which says it all. Mediate UK covers the whole of the UK. I also really like the people, as much as the process.
Everyone is helpful, friendly and organised. We at Mediate UK all share the same solution-focused view and approach upon assisting separation.
Mediators are treated by Mediate UK with care and as human beings. I strongly believe that in itself leads to better mediators. I enjoy being part of Mediate UK and have no doubt that has a direct impact upon my enjoyment of mediations and my family life.
QU:
Give us 5 facts about you:
1. I recognised the benefits within mediation early on and as soon as I had the opportunity, I paid for and placed myself upon the Family Mediators course.
2. I am a keen runner and enjoy sporting activities.
3. I believe family and health come above money. As such my child is my priority above all else.
4. I am a traveller at heart and have backpacked across many countries.
5. I adore caravan and camping holidays, just as much as holidaying by the beach.
