    Beverley McKenzie

    MediateUK Beverley McKenzie Mediator

    Accreditation: WTA

    Membership: NFM

Background: I qualified as a solicitor and specialised in Family Law before taking time out to raise my family.     I also trained and practised as a relationship counsellor with Relate when my children were small.  When I decided that I wanted to go back to work it seemed to me that mediation made the most of all my skills.

    QU:
Why did you want to become a family mediator?
Having worked as a family solicitor I believe that the way forward is to facilitate discussion between the parties to try to come to an agreement. The court process is long and expensive and doesn’t give the couple the space to deal with some of the other issues that may be hindering agreement.
    QU:
What do you like most about Family mediation?
The interaction with the clients and the sense of achievement and relief that things can move forward when an agreement is reached that everyone can live with.
    QU:
What is the most difficult mediation situation you have dealt with?
The clients not listening, talking over each other and then one of them leaving in a huff. How long do you wait to see if they come back? It eventually became clear that they were not returning!
    QU:
What do you enjoy most about working with Mediate UK?
Mediate UK is extremely supportive with a very efficient back office. Everyone seems really professional and care deeply about the mediation process.
    QU:
Give us 5 facts about you
    1. I love to travel, read and visit the theatre.
    2. At one time I had membership to 4 gyms (and didn’t go to any of them) They wouldn’t let me leave!
    3. I speak some Spanish and Italian.
    4. I am married with 4 children.
    5. I am still learning how to deal with having “adult” children!

    Neil Sykes

    Accreditation: WTA

    Membership: College of Mediators

Background: Neil covers our Bracknell Branch. Before becoming a mediator, he spent 20 years dealing with many high conflict situations. Neil also has extensive experience of the courts. His calm but assertive nature, as well as his eye for detail are ideal for family mediation.

    QU:
Why did you want to become a family mediator?
Having spent 20 years experiencing the court system, I saw time and time again that most people didn't actually need to end up in the court room, and I wanted to use my skill set to help people reach their own decisions and hopefully avoid an unnecessary court process.
    QU:
What do you most like about family mediation?
That it allows people to develop their own pathway to resolving the issues that are bespoke to them and their family.
    QU:
What is the most difficult mediation situation that you have dealt with?
Having dealt with many conflict situations, I understand that being a parent of two young girls allows me to practice my mediation skills on a daily basis.
    QU:
What do you enjoy most about working with Mediate UK?
The team spirit is unquestionable and having so many experienced mediators around you allows you to be able to help clients with even the most bespoke issues that can be presented.
